Dear readers, writers and friends! The eleventh issue of “The Evening Universe” contains the best works submitted to us during the autumn of 2023. The next issue will be for the entire winter season as well. On this matter, I should explain the situation with our magazine.
I live in Russia. At the end of 2021, I planned to start my literary magazine in English as some kind of an ambitious project—not a publication of just sci-fi, fantasy and horror but a big international magazine of all genres. I knew how to get funding for this, and I even have made a web design for that site. But everything has changed at the beginning of 2022, when the well-known things have happened.
I was devastated for months, and then I’ve started “The Evening Universe” only at the end of 2022. The magazine has no funds except my own work. No, I don’t ask you for donations, since Russia is now banned from international payment. So “The Evening Universe” is more like a hobby for me. Immediately after the publication of every issue, I have to throw myself into my bread and butter work.
At the beginning of this autumn, the prices of everything in my country continued to grow, and I had to work more. I had no time for the magazine and, more importantly, I nearly lost hope that the things would change.
But it is very wrong to lose your hope anyway.
I decided to release two issues for autumn and winter. Then hopefully I will be able to publish the magazine on monthly basis again.
Read Issue 11! As always, in “The Evening Universe,” you will find wonderful poetry, as well as excellent fiction.
Happy reading!
Sincerely yours,
Maxim Sviridenkov,
founder and editor-in-chief of “The Evening Universe”
